  • We met in Wall Street Pier 11 in downtown Manhattan to take IKEA Express Water Taxi which took us to Red Hook, Brooklyn. The IKEA Express runs every 20 minutes and the best part- it’s free on the weekends! It’s the best way to enjoy the amazing views of the New York City skyline, a perfect opportunity to snap, instagram and share the moment.
  • After a 20 minute ride, we got off the second stop: Red Hook, Van Brunt Street. My first impression of the waterfront and area was that I was back in the 1800’s somewhere in New England with all the cobblestone and antique industrial buildings. In the same area, we were able to pose next to antique cars, busses, and the famous family owned Sunny’s Bar which first opened in 1890 and featured in one of the Chef Anthony Bourdain “No Reservations” Show!
  • Exploring and walking enivitably led us to grab drinks at the Brooklyn Crab located at 24 Reed Street, a tri-level unique seafood shack that features outdoor/indoor dinning sections, mini-golf in the backyard garden, a cornhole lawn section, and as an added bonus their third level is the perfect spot for a Statue of Liberty sighting. It was the perfect opportunity to enjoy a couple of beers, with great company in a unique setting.

From this experience I learned that there’s no better way to catch up with friends while exploring your own city instead just sticking to mundane cocktails or coffee at your usual spots. I invite all of you adventurers to make memories with your friends by exploring your own surroundings.

Inspired by the beautiful July weather, I joined this month’s challenge #ventureout.

Refusing to let a gorgeous day escape, I began my first adventure with my two friends by exploring my own back yard: Brooklyn, NY. Venturing out is a great time to explore but it’s even sweeter when you can catch up with friends while you’re out!
